HISTORY
Far, far away, and long ago, four brothers in a small village in Mexico arrived home from school one day to find Mama Camerina covered with flour and crying rivers of tears.
"Que tienes Mama," said the first brother, Jamie. Mama replied "I'm tired of preparing tamales day in and day out and never will making all these tamales make me famous for what I do. I want to make tamales for the world." "But Mama", said Polo, "you make the best tamales, the best quesadillas, the best chile rellenos in all Mexico...everyone knows that." "And", said Hector, "you should stay here in our village. You are famous here already.
"I have an idea," said brother Jose, "We will board the first donkey to Seattle, Washington and from there we will sell your tamales, your quesadillas, your chille rellenos and we will build a restaurant so famous, all will come from miles around to taste the recipes of Mama Camerina. We will call the restaurant AZTECA and it will be known for "Delicious American Food - Mexican style, of
course."
And so it began...the four Ramos brothers headed for Seattle in 1974, built many restaurants and sold millions of Mama Camerina's secret recipe dishes. But the story ends differently for Mama. The restaurant made the four brothers famous. As Mama Camerina would often say, "Those are my boys and they stole my recipes."
Today, many grandchildren have joined Azteca to ensure Grandma Camerina's recipes from Cuautla, Mexico will continued to be enjoyed. Her recipes have earned Azteca many awards. Try Azteca's famous Nachos, Margaritas, Sizzling Fajitas, freshly made tortillas and handmade salsa.
